From The Corner Of My Mind

* A cold front is getting close to us. By this time tomorrow a big change is expected in the weather with temperatures in the 60s most of the week.
* It's a sad morning in racing. If you watched any racing this weekend you know that three horrific crashes happened over the weekend. The first occured at Vegas in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. Ricky Carmichael took a hit in the truck race. Jimmy Johnson spun out and ran up the track hitting the wall nearly head on in the Sprint Cup Race, and Dan Wheldon crashed in the IZOD Series race, losing his life.
* RC walked away from the crash. JJ walked away from the crash. DW didn't. Why? There are many reasons. The first being that NASCAR has developed a car, along with safety fencing and safety barriers that absorb so much energy that it makes for a very safe race car and racing experience. The INDY cars are also very safe and have in the past devoted many dollars and time developing a car that absorbs energy in a way as to deflect it away from the driver, or separate in a way that protects the driver. Dans car flew into the air and got into the upper wall and catch fence where the safety barrier doesn't exist.
* NO race car is completely safe or can provide the protection needed to avoid injury or death. These guys race. They race because they love to race and they are some of the best at what they do. They know the risks involved with racing and choose to do it every weekend.
* I don't want Jimmy Johnson to win a sixth championship, but I also don't want to see him dead. I cheered win he hit the wall. I cheered because I knew it would be hard for him to come back after a Chase Cup crash and win the title again. I feel stupid after looking back at it knowing that he may not have gotten out of that car. He took one of the hardest hits in NASCAR this year and I cheered? I was caught up in the moment, and by now you should know me well enough to know that I don't want to see anyone hurt or dead. I, like many other fans have become complacent after a crash. I watch as driver after driver climbs out of their cars after hard hits and wicked crashes and never even think about the possibility that they might not get out.
* I have changed my way of thinking since the death of Dan Wheldon yesterday and I hope, as fans, that we all do.
* I had the weekend off. There was a lot going on this weekend. Yesterday W-spouse let me sleep during a movie for about 45 minutes. That was the most peaceful time I slept all weekend.
* This morning I woke up with a scratchy throat. Ugghhhhh
* A week off for the races coming in three weeks. I can't wait.
* Sunday morning our church had services out at the Gillespie Ranch. Our morning service was outside right beside the lake. The sun was shining and a light breeze was blowing and it couldn't have been more beautiful. We then had a fish fry with all the trimmings. I was miserably full after eating the meal and a piece of pecan pie. Some of the children swam in the lake afterwards and some in the heated pool. Others grabbed some poles and went fishing, while others  toured the ranch. W-spouse and I chose to walk some lunch off and walked around looking at everything. They even have an old gas station and ice cream parlor built there. It has original equipment from an old ice cream store and soda fountain.
* W-spouse and I sat beside Mr. Answers and his lovely wife at lunch. We also toured the grounds with them. It will be hard for you to find two better people than he and his wife!
* W-mom and Papa Harold made it back yesterday from their trip to visit my sister in Iowa. They were glad to get off the road for a while.
* Go Rangers. Wednesday night I will be watching.
* Cowboys.......LMBO
* Say a prayer for me today please, see ya Around The Corner!

Very well said. I, like you, had become very complacent with race car crashes. And after seeing the replay it's hard to believe any of those drivers walked away. It's very sad that we as race fans have lost another true champion and ambasitor to the sport. My thoughts and prayers are for his family and friends. Ecspeacialy his wife and two young boys.

What happened to TS? He was leading and I clicked over to watch the Marty Stuart Show and when I came back he was running 14th. Later he went to the pit on green and the yellow came out. Did it happen to him twice?
If so, I suspect a conspiracy between the flag man and JG; or maybe KB, or maybe all of them. : )>
Prayers for Dan Wheldon's family and all of the men, and women, who still race.

Yep, he went from second to 14th because both times in the pits late in the race a caution came out. man that sucked. He stii came back to finish 8th though.

W - don't see anything out of place - I've only got one post since the antelope, and it's still in draft stage awaiting a valid embed code.

Hope your scratchy throat stopped bothering you & that you are well. Glad to know that D & H got back home safely. Your comments about how your perspective on racing has changed says a lot about how you as a man have changed & makes me love you more. Mo
