Fines Imposed In NASCAR Today

NASCAR didn't waste any time today in handing down the fines to all the drivers and teams involved in yesterdays events at Phoenix. I think the fines were fair, although I am disappointed that NASCAR didn't rule to set Jeff Gordon out at Homestead this next weekend. I understand why (they said that he didn't have any past infractions such as this) and that my friends, is total BS. He has had issues just like this in the past and just because he is the "Wonder Boy", "Past Champion", they have chosen to overlook his transgressions. Now before you go jumping all up in my stuff, I am fully aware of my favorite driver and his past. I am also fully aware of Kyle Busch and his past. Yet they parked him because of his idiot actions in Texas last year. There is no continuity in the fines, nor the punishment handed down by the NASCAR sanctioning body. I called it yesterday on Facebook when I said immediately after the incident that they would just "slap his wrist", and they did. If you think that a $100,000 fine is going to hurt Jeff Gordons pocketbook, then you have no idea just how much money he made yesterday, not including his yearly salary, and his numerous endorsements. It was equal to you or I getting a $25 speeding ticket. Quite possibly the only thing that might eventually hurt him, and we will only know that after next weekend, is that by docking him 25 Championship points, and causing him to be in the number 11 spot in the Chase, is that only the top 10 ten get to go to Vegas for the awards ceremony. Now you might ask, is that such a big thing? Yes it is, because he won't get to stand on that stage and name every one of his sponsors. That will sting a little, but he's already signed a lifetime contract with Dupont, so he really don't care anyway. So, did NASCAR make a statement in the fines and punishment handed down to Jeff Gordon for risking the lives of numerous other drivers and tearing up multiple cars in the process? Nope......

One other thing, they fined Brad Keselowski $25,000 for having his phone in the car with him and Tweeting while under the red flag conditions brought on by Gordons stupidity. Brad knew better and shouldn't have done that. Fair fine. But, I would have been pissed if they would have fined him for going on a four letter word tirade in the media center after the race. It wasn't on live TV, and therefore, was perfectly legal.

Yea all that, and I still dislike Jeff Gordon.

**EDIT** Read this if you think I'm the only one that feels that way about Gordon!

Gordon should have been parked at Homestead and fined 50 points for NEXT season. That would have sent a loud and clear message and would have been fair punishment considering Gordon killed Bowyer's chance at a championship and left his Hendrick teammate in.

This was obvious favoritism for Gordon/Hendrick by NASCAR.

I agree with you once again. Now I think Rick Hendrick should give him a time out but we all know that won't happen because of sponsor obligations. He could easily put another driver in the 24 car for Homestead. Can you imagine the crowd reaction during driver introductions? We should be able to hear the BOO'S here in Texas!
