Thoughts over 50 years:
* 50 showed up real fast.
* I should have taken better care of myself.
* Having diabetes scares me. I should do better.
* I have needed reading glasses ever since being diagnosed.
* I could have been a better father, knowing what I know now.
* I have two beautiful daughters and three handsome step sons.
* I could have been a better husband, knowing what I know now.
* I probably don't deserve the wife I have, but God has a plan for us.
* She still tells me she loves me. Every day.
* I should have been a better representation of my faith.
* I pray. A lot. More now than ever before.
* I WILL be a better servant in the future.
* I have learned more about God and my faith in the last 5 years than in the previous 45.
* I would have went in to the military, knowing what I know now.
* My mother has never failed me. Ever.
* I've learned that a step parent can, and did raise you like you were his own.
* My family is very loving and supporting.
* Grand kids came early in my life. I love them dearly.
* I have way more friends than I deserve.
* I like to hug. If you know me, you know that.
* I should have saved 10 percent of every dollar I ever made. I could retire. Today.
* I wish I had all the money I've spent eating out. I could have retired. 5 years ago.
* I remember wondering back then what it would feel like to be 50.
* I don't remember some things from my youth.
* I sometimes wonder if there was a traumatic event that caused that.
* They say you lose brain cells daily. I'm to a point where mine should be manageable now.
* I now have experienced some of the things that my grand parents and parents used to tell me.
* I still haven't walked uphill, 10 miles, barefoot to school yet though.
* The road ahead looks much better than I thought it would at 50.
* Is there anything left to learn the hard way?
* My music choices have widely varied throughout 50 years. Music has always been my "get away".
* Country music is my first memory. Praise and Worship makes me feel good right now.
* I have drank coffee on and off all my life, but never have "HAD" to have it.
* I would have never thought that I would enjoy/love/depend on computers, IPhones or IPads.
* I haven't written a handwritten letter in years. I don't know if ever will again, other than signing a card.
* Yoga isn't for me. I don't think they make yoga pants that fit me anyway.
* Home grown tomatoes on a sandwich are delicious.
* Am I a "glass half empty" or a "glass half full" person? I'm just glad to have a glass.
I read a quote this morning that I need to start applying to my life. Today. It goes like this:
Live without pretending, love without depending, listen without defending, speak without offending.
* Thanks for stopping by today, see ya Around The Corner!
Never be bullied into silence. Never allow yourself to be made a victim. Accept no one's definition of your life, but define yourself. Harvey S. Firestone
The people with whom you work reflect your own attitude. If you are suspicious, unfriendly and condescending, you will find these unlovely traits echoed all about you. But if you are on your best behavior, you will bring out the best in persons with whom you are going to spend most of your waking hours.
Some people get spiritual because they see the light and some people get spiritual because they feel the heat!
How do you know if you're truly a servant? See how you react the next time someone treats you like one.

Hey, they now say that the loss of brain cells is not only NOT inevitable, you can actually reverse the loss. Mostly our brains have been reduced due to lifestyle; diet, lack of exercise, alcohol, caffeine, etc. you CAN gain them back by lifestyle changes. Diet, exercise your body and brain, moderate amounts of alcohol is a great place to start. Make a reasonable short term goal to loose 10 pounds. Buy a cheap pedometer and try to add 1000 steps to your day. Read a book or play a video game for 15 minutes. Reach those then double the first two.

Dear Around the Corner,
Happy Belated Birthday!!!! Even though I have only met you once or twice, I feel like I know you. From what I see, you are a wonderful husband, father(I hate the word step because I know you can love them as much as the ones you gave birth to),son, and friend. Thank you for introducing me to the other bloggers who make me laugh and think. Thank you for sharing your life with us. The people who know you personally are the lucky one. 50 is the new 30 and I know you will live it to the fullest.
Pretty good stuff
AWESOME post.
I have completely forgotten things over the years....during my Grandmother's funeral, family sat around and told stories...I swear, some of those stories involving me sounded made up. Where was I?? I don't recall that?! And I never did crack, so I'm a little confused.....
I love your quote. It's great.
Well at least you don't ever have to worry about being wise beyond your years.
So very true your blog today! How did I raise you and not realize your writing ability? Maybe someday you can write a book! Anyway, we love you... Mom and Papa H
I appreciate everything you posted today. You astound me! Mo
