The people with whom you work reflect your own attitude. If you are suspicious, unfriendly and condescending, you will find these unlovely traits echoed all about you. But if you are on your best behavior, you will bring out the best in persons with whom you are going to spend most of your waking hours.

From The Corner Of My Mind

* Another spectacular morning in North Texas. Even for a Monday!
* It was a busy weekend at ATC. Saturday W-spouse and I went shopping (shoot me) and spent the better part of the day over at Denton. Saturday night I was in front of the big screen watching the All Star Race on TV. Sunday morning we were up bright and early and off to Bible Class and Church. During the morning service, our church recognized all the graduating seniors that attend our church or youth group. There were only 4 of them in attendance and our youth pastor did a great job on the video for each of them. They were then all given personalized bibles and we then all went up to the Attic Cafe and had lunch together. W-stepson had 10 of the family members in attendance there for him.
* Sunday after church, I pretty much did nothing. Well I watched the Nationwide race at Iowa Speedway and napped.
* Yesterday evening I grabbed some take out supper and rode over to W-baby moms house to check on Madison. She has been sick with a double ear infection, strep throat and bronchitis all last week. We even took her to the hospital Friday evening because her temperature had spiked again. They sent her home after doing blood work and chest x-rays to make sure that pneumonia had not set in. Her fever finally broke Saturday evening and as of late last night, she hasn't ran any fever again.
* She has been sick since we finished project DTB and hasn't gotten to come play on it yet. Hopefully soon.
* W-mom and Papa Harold are going to stay with her today and keep her out of school one more day to be sure she doesn't run fever again. She also has a follow up with the doctor this evening.
* The person that died in this plane accident is a good friend of one of my co-workers. They hunted together frequently. Please keep them in your prayers.
* I rarely listen to the scanner anymore, but yesterday on the way home from W-baby moms I met a couple of ambulances going west on 380. I turned on my scanner app on my phone and listened to see what was going on (being nosey). When I got home I turned it off. Or so I thought. I was watching TV when the pager tones went off for the airplane crash, so I listened to it for a while and heard the severity of the injuries of the patients.
* When I was on the BVFD I had a scanner in the living room and a scanner next to the bed (always on 24-7). I also had my pager and usually kept a mobile scanner nearby in my vehicle or listened to it while at work. Some people label that as being nosey. Others understand that while serving in a fire fighter capacity, that seconds save lives. Seconds keep your house from either burning to the ground or possibly saving the entire structure and contents contained within. There were numerous times while serving on the BVFD that I heard traffic on the scanner that allowed me to be in route towards the fire station minutes before our actual tones went off. Usually upon arrival some other dedicated member had done the same thing and was either already there in the truck, or was driving up at the same time. There were times when we actually were waiting for the tones to go off for a wreck, fire or in most cases, mutual aid to some other department that hadn't responded to their tones.
* I don't listen to a scanner like I used to, and if I did so now, you might assume that it was that I was being nosey. I would like to say that if I listened to it now, that it would bring back the memories of a time in my life that I enjoyed. A time that I reveled in. A time that I excelled in (Firefighter of the year for two years in a row). A time in my life that I felt full filled with accomplishing something, and at the same time assisting others, usually at one of their lowest times in life.
* W-spouse told me to purchase a scanner when the boys got on the DVFD and I did. We sat it next to the recliner in the family room and after having it on during a movie for about 15 minutes, it was turned off. Now it rests on the top shelf of the cabinet above the washing machine. Probably never to be turned on, ever again.
* Honestly, I don't know if I could adjust to the constant chatter anymore. It's something you have to get used to.
* Have a great day, see ya Around The Corner!

Everything you say about the scanner is true! Once I got used to it, I realized that it helped us to plan ahead, even though I will admit that sometimes I get a little overwhelmed at the noise level in my house. I didn't know you were firefighter of the year two years in a row. Thank you for your service! I hope the little one is able to come play on her new playground soon.

We will continue to pray for Madison.
We also have a scanner app and sometimes it gets left on, and in the middle of the night that dang tone will scare the living bajeebers out of me.
