Today after getting off work I drove to the car wash to get Black Beauty washed. When I pulled out onto buisness 380 I looked to the left and noticed a vehicle with emegency flashers on at the entrace to Walmart. I made the loop back around and it was a woman with and older woman and it looked like younger kids in the backseat of the pickup. I safely pulled into the center median and rolled the window down to ask if they needed assistance or wanted me to pull them into the parking lot. They politely refused saying that her husband had been called and was minutes away. Another gentleman pulled up about that time and asked the same thing I did, and she told him the same thing. She politely thanked both of us. As we were pulling away, a Texas Department of Public Safety Officer drove by and waved. I followed him on my way home, where he made the U-turn under 730 back to the DPS office and parked.
Cheers: To the gentleman and myself for caring enough to stop and offer assistance to the ladies in distress.
Jeers: To the DPS officer that was in such a big hurry to get to the office that he couldn't stop for 3 minutes and ask if the ladies needed help.
Lots of factors at play here maybe:
He saw us and assumed she had help? We were already pulled away from the scene.
He didn't see her? She was setting halfway in the road and totally blocking the right hand turn lane with emergency flashers on.
He was already on a call? Can't answer that one.
He was just getting off work? I have already put in 73 hours this week in 6 days and I stopped.
DIsclaimer: I DID NOT POST THIS TO GET PATS ON THE BACK FOR STOPPING AND OFFERING ASSISTANCE. I posted this because I thought it was bullcrap.

The people with whom you work reflect your own attitude. If you are suspicious, unfriendly and condescending, you will find these unlovely traits echoed all about you. But if you are on your best behavior, you will bring out the best in persons with whom you are going to spend most of your waking hours.

that trooper passed you guys and went on to his office? giving the benefit of the doubt... that he was maybe on a call.... report by phone? urgent enough to pass a stranded motorist? i don't know.... maybe he radioed to city our county guys to help out? i am hesitant to say what i really think here... after working with many LEO's i tend to have a different opinion... sad but true
I would've called DPS and asked. Then given a piece of my mind if given a BS answer. I've called on sheriff's dept. guys driving past Rann Elem. at 3pm pickup time going WELL over 30 mph. Every single person they passed were going 20 mph. 2 days in a row they did this, and I called both days. Same person driving the car. i don't care how important the call was, he knew of a detour and speeded through an elem. pick-up time.
they have a citizens academy down here where I'm from and I love it. They get to go through and experience a fraction of what we do. It's always been interesting to me in my 20 something years on the department that people are always ready to complain about how fast we're driving. But amazingly the same people complain that we dont drive fast enough when they need us.
Yawl remember one thing..WHEN EVERYBODY ELSE RUNS AWAY WE RUN TOWARDS..
Sorry Cuz I'll step off my soap box now. If you get a chance check out the video on my page.
Has it came to any of yawl that the Trooper might have already stopped and talked to the Lady and was told the same as you were. Next time try and judge for the good and not immediately think the worst
I don't know why he didn't stop. I do know that he hadn't stopped prior to us stopping. The lady wasn't there 2 minutes before I stopped. Either way, I'm not against the Police in any way. I am disappointed that he didn't stop and check on her.
There's a big diff between the Decatur PD and the State Troopers. One is top notch. The other is just a waste of taxpayer money.
The trooper was probably texting and didn't see her. I've seen that happen in Paradise twice.
