Question Of The Day

In the last 20 years it has become a tradition in Chicago at hockey games, football games and other events to yell, scream and applaud during the National Anthem.
I was raised to stand up, take off my hat/cap or other head gear, place my hand over my heart and either sing along, or remain quiet during the National Anthem. I still feel that way and do so each time it's palyed.

What is your opinion in regards to hollering, screaming, clapping and making noise during the National Anthem?

Very disrespectful..Now, at soem high school football games, the football players start patting each others shoulder towards the end, but not during the entire song!

I think it should be as you said. I thought about this yesterday at the game. Very disrespectful.

Disrespectful and a lacking display of patriotism. Like you, I was taught to place my hand over my heart, stand in stoic silence or sing along, and pay homage to the flag and our country.

Even at home watching it on TV we stand in silence.

it is disrespectful! i get upset at the friday night games when the kids, and their parents... and the teachers and principals... continue chatting, talking on the phone, texting, whatever...

they have no respect for this country.. and if they don't have respect for the country, then they should at least show respect for the men & women in the military protecting that which they don't respect...

sheesh! patriotism used to mean something....

I have always stood and placed my hand over my heart. I have raised my girls to do so as well, wherever they are, whatever they are doing at the time. They have taken ribbing for it, but no matter, they do what's right by showing respect for our country and gratitude for being blessed with living here.

No matter what topic you discuss, it will always come down to this: People just lack respect and appreciation for anything anymore. It is heart breaking.

I firmly beleive in standing, removing any headgear, and singing along politely as our National Anthem is played. I have served and faught to keep our nation free and take it personally when our Flag and Anthem are demeaned and disrespected. It is still hard for me, when I hear our National Anthem played, to not stand at attention with my hands at my sides and my feet slightly apart. Thanks for calling attention to this growing problem. Maybe someone reading this will think twice when they hear the National Anthem played and show respect.

eyes open mouth shut unless you want to sing along.

Welcome to the cess-pit that is modern society.

As an adult Scout leader, I participated in many flag retirement ceremonies. Very solemn events.

The hooligans whose narcissism exceeds their ability to pay respect during the Star Spangled Banner have no concept of the cost for that liberty.

I came into the gym the other night and everyone looked at me and removed their caps. It was disappointing when the National Anthem started up.

I threatened to slap the hat off a guy's head once during the Star-Spangled Banner at a Ranger game.

"Remove your hat, sir. REMOVE YOUR HAT, SIR. [in a low hiss right be hind his head] If you don't take that effing hat off in the next two seconds I will remove it for you."

No wonder everyone likes me so much, huh?
