The Civil War Re-enactment was held this weekend in Jacksboro Texas at Fort Richardson State Park. We had a very good time and the show was very interesting. The actors stayed on the grounds in tents. They used no electricity and only used water out of a few faucets supplied on the grounds. There were many tents set up in both camps. We saw them cooking by camp fire and in Dutch Ovens. There was a blacksmith on hand. We saw many different types of guns and cannons. There was even a Gatlin Gun on display. The cannons were very loud and were fun to listen to when they were fired off. It was very hot and with no wind blowing, when they fired the cannons, huge smoke rings would develop in the air. There was a dance held after the show and everyone was dressed in their "Sunday Best". Most of the men were dressed in wool pants for the show, even as hot as it was. All in all, I found it very interesting and really entertaining.
I now share with you some pictures of the event. We tried to keep the modern effects out of the background in the pictures, but some are there anyway. Just ignore any light poles or cell phone antennas that you might find.

Way cool! I shoulda gone out there to check that out this weekend.
My folks attended/participated in a Mountain Man Rendezvous a couple of weeks ago at Ft. Bridger, WY. Though they've used a wall tent the past several years, this year they decided to use their tipi, even though it's more work to set up and more difficult to move about inside.
Anyway, looks like ya'll had a good time.
I have a renewed appreciation for a/c and electricity! (not for a blow dryer either...Mr. Coffee) And isn't ALL humidity supposed to stay south of San Antone?! It was a great show on yet another day in American history to be remembered. Freedom and what you believe in IS worth fighting for...even if Obama is our pres.
Wonderful job you are doing with this blog. Wendell, I have new respect for you....imagine! he is more than just a pretty face!!
