The people with whom you work reflect your own attitude. If you are suspicious, unfriendly and condescending, you will find these unlovely traits echoed all about you. But if you are on your best behavior, you will bring out the best in persons with whom you are going to spend most of your waking hours.

A David/Wendell Story

I sat with cuz overnight. Around midnight, the nurses came in to bathe him and change the sheets on the bed. They came in and turned on all the lights and started doing their thing. Prior to that, the only light was the faint light of the hallway and the flickering of the tv on CNN. After they had finished I approached the side of the bed and asked David if that had hurt? He blinked twice, for no. I asked if he needed anything or did he hurt? He blinked twice for no. I turned to walk away and caught him moving his eyes. I stopped and asked him if he wanted anything, he looked up. Straight ahead. I asked him again. Again, he looked up and straight ahead. I'm getting frustrated, he's getting pissed and then I leaned down and looked up. Oh, the lights. You want me to turn the lights off? Blinked once for yes. I turned the lights off and could see the look of frustration in his eyes. I then leaned over and said "duh, dumbass". He blinked once......we both started laughing and I had to walk away to keep him from laughing. Typical David.

Update: Not much change. He developed a temperature during the night and blood and urine samples were taken to the lab for analysis. The first doctor that came through this morning said the fever was probably coming from the lungs. I asked specifically, pneumonia? He said no, not yet. Just fluid from not being able to exhale completely because of the ventilator. Today a tracheotomy and feeding tube are scheduled to be inserted.
Whitney is riding back to Wise county with Troylene today. Jo Ann, w-sister and I are staying till at least Saturday.
Thanks for all the prayers and offers of support. We have some great friends and family.

I love you Son. Thank you for your compassion and care that you are giving while you are with David. I knew that you and he have a special bond, but guess I just took it for granted. I won't take anything for granted anymore, what has happened has made me realize we need to live every moment as if it was our last. Hold family close to our hearts, and not sweat the small stuff. I am so proud of you, I know you are a grown man, but sometimes as a mom, I still want control. Forgive me when I fail and remember I love you always.
