From The Corner Of My MInd

* 60 degrees this morning.
* I'm running behind this morning. Why?
* I stayed up and watched the 2012 Daytona 500 played out on prime time last night on Fox 4. 36 hours later than the original start time.
* That had to be one of the wildest races that I have ever watched. Competition, drivers, cars crashing, drama, yellow flags, fires and Tweeting from the track.
* First time things occuring while watching the race last night:
. Jimmy Johnson out of the race on lap 2.
. Danica Patrick starting her first NASCAR Sprint Cup race.
. Danica Patrick wrecked on 2nd lap, coming back out 56 laps down, and finishing the race.
. Juan Pablo Montoya breaking his car under caution, losing control and crashing in to a safety truck.
. Jet Dryer safety truck erupting in flames after the crash.
. Brad Keselowski tweeting from his car under caution.
. I tweeted Brad Keselowski during the red flag.
. All of the drivers exiting their cars on the backstretch, talking strategy and just hanging out.
. Group text members watching the race, and the fire after I brought it to their attention excitedly.
* Fox 4 carried the race during prime time for 6 hours and 18 minutes. Unheard of in the sporting world.
* There are those that say NASCAR isn't a real sport. After being in a prime time slot for 6 hours and never dropping coverage or swapping the race to another channel, they might want to rethink their position on that.
* I'm anxious to see the TV ratings last night.
* The stands at Daytona were nearly at full capacity. Most of those fans had been there for the better part of 7 days. Some had been there since media day on the 16th of February.
* I do feel sorry for those that had other obligations and had to miss the race to leave for home and work.
* I don't want to see anyone hurt, in any sport, but crashes are exciting and a part of racing. That being said, Jimmy Johnson took a hit last night right in the drivers door that he watched coming at him, and he braced for, that was extreme.
* Jeff Gordon blew up an engine about mid race. I cheered loudly. My BIL sent me a message and he said, "I think I saw Tony Stewart putting sugar in the 24 gas tank before the race". I replied to him, "I hope so, that was my recommendation to him"! He likes Gordon. He also needs to find a new driver.
* Tony Stewart is my favorite driver. I have other drivers that I like, and other drivers that I somewhat like, but LOVE to watch drive a race car.
Favorite Drivers: Tony Stewart(3 time Champion), Mark Martin(all around great guy).
Drivers I like: Carl Edwards(Ford), Matt Kenseth(Ford), Brad Keselowski, Elliot Sadler, Todd Bodine.
Drivers that can turn a wheel like no other: Kyle Busch, Jimmy Johnson, Ron Hornaday, Dale JR.
Drivers I despise: Jeff Gordon, Kevin Harvick, Juan Pablo Montoya.
* There are others, but most just fall in to any particular race, or racing scene at any given time.
* Brad Keselowski tweeted this picture during the red flag last night just as the fire was getting huge. It is said to be the first ever tweet from inside a racecar, during a race, at the Daytona 500.
Here is a series of pictures taken from Yahoo that show the Jet Dryer truck on fire. Also the emergency crews trying to extinguish the fire.
* After the over two hour red flag, some crew members were loaded into a bus and transported to the backstretch to make sure their respective drivers were buckled in correctly and safely after each of them had exited their cars to stretch their legs and just hang out and chat. Danica, Tony, Kyle and a few others were shown headed towards the infield, I assume to relieve themselves.
* A rule of NASCAR: No recording devices are to be allowed inside the race car, except for the camera used for the coverage or the race. Will Brad Keselowski now be in trouble, or somehow fined for carrying his phone along with him last night? It is a recording device, is it not?
* Some results: Tony #14 16th place. Kyle #18 17th place. Danica #10 38th place. Jimmy Johnson #48 42nd place and second to last.
* Oh yeah, and Matt Kenseth takes the checkered flag in the #17 Ford.
* It was a close finish with his team mate Greg Biffle and Dale Jr fighting for second place behind #17 Matt Kenseth. Dale Jr made the pass in the last few seconds and took second place.
* The drivers and teams are on their way to Phoenix.
* EDIT: Fog has set in across the southeast and most of the drivers/team members/media types are stuck in airports awaiting new flights and delayed flight schedules. Per Twitter and NASCAR Sirius radio.
* Wow, that was a lot of NASCAR talk. Get used to it.
* Have a god day, see ya Around The Corner!

Juan Pablo Montoya has officially hit every vehicle in NASCAR.

Brad Keselowski's Twitter blow up has to be some kind of record. In following him I found the Twitter feed of NASCAR VP Steve O'Donnell that gave LOTS of race info. http://twitter.com/#!/odsteve

I'm not a Twitter user, but I might have to sign up now.
