It's just not fun anymore. I will continue with some stories, tales and fun over on Facebook. I plan on leaving the blog open for a few weeks to make absolutely sure that I am finished, and to figure out how to save all of this. Whitney and I have a lot of things going on to keep us busy. I hope you have enjoyed the ride, and thanks from the bottom of my heart for following along, and thank you for the many gracious comments that I have received over the last three years.
I hope that somewhere along the way that I put a smile on your face, and in some small way, made your day brighter. May God bless you.
* When I arrived on location near Krum this morning, it looks like they got a whole lot more rain than we did in Decatur. There is water standing everywhere.
* W-baby mom and I took the Teryx4 out to Northwest OHV in Bridgeport on Saturday. We were the only ones there for a long time. It was cold, wind blowing and misting rain for nearly the whole time we were there. We did have a good time, but it was cold.
* The Teryx4 performed flawlessly once again. She and I did some big hills and climbed a few places that we had never been before. W-baby mom is fearless when climbing, very rarely even flinching. She is also pretty good at spotting me through the climbs.
* Still haven't tried out the new winch that I put on it 6 months ago.
* Sunday morning we went to church and had a wonderful lunch with the family afterwards at Catfish O'Harlies. We brought some leftovers home from there and this morning when I got in my truck to leave, guess where the leftovers were? Yep, left in the seat of my truck.
* If you followed W-spouse and I along on FaceBook Saturday evening, I hope you laughed. I did. I laughed harder than I had in years. Yes it was simply a joke. Nothing more.
* True, I'm gonna purchase more guns along the way, and she IS getting a pool. All in good time.
* I think I ended up with a little over a 100 likes.
* Unfortunately, nothing is going as planned right now. Mondays will be Mondays.
* The weekend went by way to fast.
* W-spouse and I hope to go see Cuz and also make a trip to Austin to see the In-laws in the next few weeks.
* The guy that they are searching for out in California, that has killed those people, his story seems to have some merit as far as getting fired for no reason. I read some background about the reason he got fired over the weekend and his story seems legit. I wonder if he was fired because he spoke out?
* NO I DON'T think what he did is right and in NO WAY approve of the killings. I am saying that WHEN he spoke out, and IF it was actually true, then I can see what set him off. I hope they detain him before he kills anyone else. If not, he's either going to kill himself, or a whole bunch of people and himself. A bad situation.
* Lake Bridgeport is getting dangerously low. We need rain. And lots of it.
* W-spouse went and watched the new movie Identity Thief on Saturday. She said that she laughed throughout the whole movie.
* I would rather watch a movie at home than in the big movie theaters.
* Smile, it's Monday, see ya Around The Corner!aroundthecornerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10618937005669670424noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6916479030939422122.post-4637795520102742712013-02-08T08:01:00.000-06:002013-02-08T08:04:44.169-06:00From The Corner Of My Mind* It's a little cooler this morning than the last few days. The sun is rising fast to warm things up, and it looks like it's going to be a beautiful day.
* I wrote a long post via the IPhone yesterday that is lost in cyberspace. I typed it up and sent it via email. Apparently CenturyLink/Embarq mail server is having issues. It worked for a while last night but seems to be back down again this morning.
* I receive Internet service through CenturyLink at home, hence the embarqmail address that I have. They have changed names of the company numerous times since we started using their service 10 years ago. I'm through with it. We don't even have a land line into our house. We don't want one and don't need one. We use our cell phones for everything. They charge us more for a dedicated Internet service, than if we were to have a phone and Internet through them. Stupid. One more reason that I've had enough.
* We have a neighbor that worked for the company(not anymore)and he informed me that they are the biggest scam out there right now. True or not, I've had enough of their poor service. I pay extra monthly for a faster Internet service and rarely is it even faster than before. It takes forever to download a movie and it should only take 15 minutes at the speeds that I'm supposed to have.
* Ideas on better Internet service in Decatur?
* The bad thing, I would have to change my email address that I have had for 9 years now. Ughhhh
* Rant over.
* I have been asked to head up the men's ministry at church. I accepted.
* I reluctantly started going back to church 3 years ago. I didn't want to serve in ANY capacity at that time. I just wanted to sneak in, sneak out and get filled with the Holy Spirit. On my time frame. Things, and people change. The family at Central Fellowship have made me feel welcome, at home, and part of great family of spiritual people. I've prayed about this and see a need. I have some ideas to develop this program and any input would be greatly appreciated.
* We used to have a monthly men's breakfast, and I hope to get that started back up. We/I will have to be creative in funding any activities that me or others come up with due to the hard times our community and church are facing at this time. It can be done, and I feel I was called to this challenge.
* I hope I don't let anyone down. Onward Christian Soldiers!
* We are getting our taxes done next week. Pray about that.
* I have a GOOD friend that is a financial advisor. He would get out one of his guns and shoot me if he saw our budget.
* Looking back through some records a few days ago, it was discovered, not to my surprise, that we eat out entirely to much.
* Cuz got a visitor a few nights ago from a cousin that was in Houston on business. He was glad to see you Steve, and thanks so much for taking the time to stop by.
* Remember to keep up with him and check in at care pages.com / JDGreen!
* Have a great weekend, see ya Around The Corner!aroundthecornerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10618937005669670424noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6916479030939422122.post-89589060510258144442013-02-04T08:50:00.000-06:002013-02-04T08:50:35.669-06:00From The Corner Of My Mind* Light rain fell on the windshield on the way over to Krum this morning. Temperature holding in the mid 50s.
* The weather this weekend was spectacular. For February.
* I worked Saturday. Just as I arrived home and stretched out, the phone rang and it was Mr. Answers. He and his lovely wife invited us out to dinner. We gladly accepted, and enjoyed a very nice meal and even better conversation.
* We did a lot of gossiping, therefore we had to meet again Sunday morning in Bible class to ask for forgiveness. Or not.
* I had offered a guy a trade on FB for one of my guns last week. He had a gun that is just like one that I used to have. I probably sold the one I had back then because I needed the money. So I wanted another to add to my collection, he accepted and we met over at the intersection of US 281 and I 20. He was in school at Abilene and we met nearly half way. We made the deal and were both happy.
* I had very little in the gun I traded off, so I hope I got the better deal. Either way, I got what I wanted and so did he.
* I am getting my CHL soon.
* I have an appointment later today for part of it.
* That Super Bowl was crazy. The blackout and the near come back were just weird.
* The commercials were not as good as I expected. I had already watched most of them online. My favorite: The Budweiser Clydesdale. next, the Doritos baby goat. Although W-spouse didn't get it.
* We stopped at Brookshires in Bridgeport on the way through yesterday and picked up a 6 pack of Shiner Bock Heferveisen(sp)? It was good, especially with a squeeze of orange.
* While at Brookshires, we ran into W-baby mom, Deven and Madison.
* We also pre ordered a pizza for 7pm. It arrived at 7:30pm and wasn't all that good.
* I wonder how many pizza's were prepared yesterday across the US after 5pm?
* Today has already started out as a cluster.
* I turned word verification on again. Since doing so, I have NOT received ONE spam email. I'm sorry folks, but it is staying on for a while. It has been nice to check my email and not have to wade through 200-300 spam emails. Because of word verification, you may need to start/sign into a google account to be able to post. It's free and simple to join. If it doesn't work, just send the comment to my email and I will post it.
* A friend of mine turned 50 last week. I thought he was older than that. It surprised me.
* I always spell received and surprised wrong the first time I type it.
* Update on Cuz: He's had a couple of setbacks that is keeping him from returning to TIRR right now. He has a sore/wound on his backside that they are working on to get healed. They performed a surgery on it last week and are removing dead skin from it every few days. It has a wound VAC on it which should help to speed the healing. The sore IS NOT down in to the bone now. That is a good thing. I had been researching the last month for a device that would allow him to use his phone totally hands free. I found one and shared that information with Sharon. Since then they ordered him one and it arrived Friday. He is now able to text and call totally hands free. He is having a great time with that. It also allows him some sense of freedom without having to depend on someone to hold the phone up to his ear for him. If you want his number to contact him, just shoot me an email or comment, and a way to get back with you privately.
* Have a great day, see ya Around The Corner!aroundthecornerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10618937005669670424noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6916479030939422122.post-47798933822934075772013-01-31T09:17:00.001-06:002013-01-31T09:17:10.797-06:00From The Corner Of My Mind

* That little clip was sent to me in reference of something else, but it quite possibly fits the way I'm feeling about this blog lately.
* That wind yesterday was brutal folks. The location we are on is near Krum and there is NO wind block to the West/Northwest. We fought it all day, and it was COLD.
* I can't figure out which one I like better, Netflix or Hulu. W-baby mom likes Hulu, I tend to like Netflix.
* I had a meltdown in group text the other night. Simply put, they straightened me out real quick. Things are back on track. Hence the video above.
* I/we have been invited to an Oscar party. After looking at the nominees, I'm gonna have to start watching some movies really quick in the next 3 weeks so that I can vote honestly. Les Miserable(sp)? That will be last on the list, hopefully I will run out of time before I get to it on the list.
* I got a text from one of my uncles this morning. He and I talk about guns a lot. He stated that while hiding a gun in the closet last night, he found 500 rounds of .45 ammo and 4 cases of shotgun shells that he had hidden 6-7 years ago and had forgotten about. Big time score right now.
* I installed a doggie door this past Sunday. Sophie had it figured out in less than 2 minutes. We would have never thought Archie would, since he's nearly totally blind, but we were in the kitchen cleaning up and returned to the family room later, and Archie jumped in through it. We are guessing that is how he went out also. Since then he has used it multiple times.
* When we drive up in the evening, Sophie runs out through the doggie door to meet us, then in her excitement, she runs back inside and stands at the door till we open it and we walk inside.
* Thanks for all the kind comments in the above post. I haven't made up my mind what to do yet. There have been some really good suggestions. I really don't want to go private, but that might be the only way to stop the nonsense. I could turn off the comments all together, but then I wouldn't get the attention that I desire and need, so that's probably out.
* It looks like Papa Harold is back in the Blackberry business. No, not the telephone kind either. The cobbler kind. He made a road trip out to Deleon last week and bought 50 vines and already has them in the ground. Two years from now, Madison will be able to pick them off the vine! Grandchildren/great grandchildren have a way about changing our minds about things.
* Time to get to work, see ya Around The Corner!
I've been busy. Busy with work, grand kids, road trips to Georgia, playing with my guns, enjoying the brief few minutes alone with W-spouse that we get in between working and doing all the above, but most of all, the negative bullshit comments that I receive in my email EVERYDAY and the countless spam emails associated with this blog are a BEATDOWN.
I started this little place on the web with the intention of being honest and forthright with my daily life and everything that follows along with it. To express my happiness, frustrations, trials and tribulations and whatever else I might feel like writing about that day.
W-spouse and I were watching TV last night. The season premier of DALLAS. While watching, she made a comment that's been on my mind ever since. She was referring to all the drama, and all the twists and turns that the characters were acting out, and said this, "it must take a lot of energy to keep up with all those scenarios". Then it hit me. It takes way to much energy to write a post, something heartfelt, something honest, something I've experienced, something I've bought and shared with you and post it with the hope that it would make you smile or feel better, and then I get a few positive comments from my loyal readers, and 20 comments from people who have nothing better to do with their time than say a bunch of negative bullshit.
Now before you "negative Nellies" start blasting away, know this. I have huge broad shoulders and most, if not all of what you say just rolls off into the trash. I NEVER take what you say about me to heart, but when you start saying things about my wife, children, my cousin, my mother and so on, that tends to get stuck in my brain. I know the truth. You have no clue. You think you do, but you don't. Your vile nature and your despicable comments leads me to believe that you have a lonely soul. Your unhappiness can not be found here. Trust me, I walked through those same lonely times in my life. I lashed out at others with hateful comments and doing bad things. I found peace in two things. God and my current wife. I urge you to do the same. Seek solace in God first, then find something or someone to fill that huge void in your life that allows you to have the time to sit around and judge others. I pray that you will.
I'm quite undecided yet as to whether or not I will continue posting. Not because of the content of the comments, but because of the spam emails (which by the way, I've tried many things to avoid) and then having to go through all the others. It's just not fun anymore. It's not a type of therapy that it used to be.
Some of you will care. I've been told that, and received numerous emails and texts saying just that. Thank you for the kind words and thanks for hearing me out.
WWaroundthecornerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10618937005669670424noreply@blogger.com26tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6916479030939422122.post-25004641321518094622013-01-18T01:28:00.002-06:002013-01-18T01:28:38.628-06:00From The Corner Of My Mind* We left Monday evening and followed that cold front and rain halfway acros the US to the East. We stopped off in Monroe LA for the night and when we got up the temp was hovering around 33 degrees and it was raining.
* We watched the news and there was a winter storm warning posted all the way East of us across Alabama. I made a mad dash to Walkyworld to grab some snacks and and two blankets in case we got stranded on the road.
* Let me say here that we had a blanket with us but had driven up on a wreck the night before around Longview and had used it on one of the patients.
* So leaving Monroe headed East, we didn't go 5 miles and had already seen three bad wrecks. We pushed on carefully knowing we had to be in Georgia by 8am Wednesday morning. The temp hovered at 32-33 degrees but we never hit ice or snow. Just rain, and more rain. Torrential rains at times.
* In Montgomery it was 33 degrees. By the time we got to Colombus GA it was 76 and sunshine. Actually it was humid and hot on Wednesday. Thursday morning of the graduation it was raining and 40 degrees.
* All the way across Louisiana and Mississippi every creek and river was running full bank or out of bank. We never turned the wipers off till we were back in Alabama on the way home.
* I had never been to Talledega Motor Speedway, till now. We stopped by there and took pictures in the dark. And there was snow on the ground. 2-3 inches. It's hard for me to imagine snow at Talledega. Pictures to follow.
* It is currently 1:18am on Friday morning and I'm acting as co-pilot as W-spouse is in the cockpit and has full control of the IPod and has the cruise set on warp speed. We've decided to not stop, just push through. We're both ready to be home and see the grand babies and the dogs.
* We've been to Georgia to watch our son graduate from the US Army. I'm preparing a post later detailing the events.
* We are stopping for coffee and potty time.
* We should arrive at daybreak, see ya Around The Corner!

aroundthecornerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10618937005669670424noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6916479030939422122.post-49771304041219874932013-01-14T07:52:00.000-06:002013-01-14T07:52:21.214-06:00From The Corner Of My Mind* Wow, went outside to start Black Beauty and there was a light coating of snow on the ground. It really looked like sleet, but it was soft like snow. Temperature was 28 degrees when I arrived on location near Ponder.
* We have family leaving to travel this morning. If the weather cooperates. Going East is questionable this morning and overnight tonight.
* W-spouse and I attended a birthday party off of 6th in Austin Saturday night. The venue was called The Rattle Inn. The party was to honor my SIL 40th birthday. Lots of laughter, dancing and fun. By midnight I was ready to go to bed though. We stayed till nearly 1am. A wonderful time was had by all, and I would nearly bet there was at least 75-90 people in the place. My BIL footed the bill for the open bar. I bet that wasn't cheap. They also had a photo booth set up that you could get in and take pictures. They had catered food and even breakfast burritos were served after midnight.
* W-spouse got online Friday night and was checking prices on hotels in Downtown Austin, and while looking, ran across a deal on Priceline. It didn't give the name of the hotel, but it said it was a 4 star hotel downtown. She clicked on it and reserved us a room. $95 for a 4 star room. SCORE! Yesterday when I checked out and totaled the bill, it was $146 tax and overnight valet parking for Black Beauty. Can't beat a deal like that. The name of the hotel was SFA Intercontinental. It was very luxurious.
* We arrived a little early and after dropping off the truck and our luggage, we went and walked 6th St looking for some food and music to set and listen to. As we walked by the Texas Lotto building W-spouse said "Step under the sign and let me take your picture". I then proceeded to pul out my wallet and flash a few bills while she took the picture. I then posted it on Facebook AS A JOKE and said "we've picked up our winnings and are headed to the Bahamas". I NEVER imagined the response that I would get to that. Nearly immediately I started getting phone calls and responses on Facebook. From friends and family.....and people that haven't even said hello to me in years. Private messages on Facebook and texts started rolling in. I then took it one step more and posted another Facebook post that we were boarding a plane on first class. Then I started getting phone calls. W-spouse and I haven't laughed that hard in years. Funny thing. I even got 7 friend requests on Facebook.
* If I had won the lottery, I sure as heck wouldn't being announcing it on Facebook immediately. I might later generate a post that would say, "You see those two people smiling on TV, don't contact us, we will be contacting you".
* Funny thing is, we NEVER play the lottery. We did Saturday night, just as joke. We even got two numbers right and one powerball number correct. BUT. WE. DIDNT. WIN.
* Sunday morning, just to stop the phone calls and texts, I posted another Facebook post letting everyone know it was a JOKE. Good grief.
* Tomorrow we head back East to watch our son graduate from basic training at Ft Benning GA. We received a text last night letting us know that immediately after graduation he will be headed to board a plane in Atlanta. Destination Hawaii!
* Please keep W-spouse in your prayers. She hasn't said much about it lately(and that usually means she is worried)but him leaving and headed over seas and possibly being deployed in March is weighing heavy on her heart. Truly, mine also.
* I have to get to work, see ya Around The Corner!aroundthecornerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10618937005669670424noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6916479030939422122.post-86497508649280919932013-01-08T07:16:00.002-06:002013-01-08T07:16:56.775-06:00Proper Shooting Grip Techniques

When I arrived on location over near Ponder, it was 26 degrees. All the flow lines were frozen up and it took us an hour to thaw everything out.
* I worked on Saturday and W-spouse was on call Friday night. She got called in about midnight and didn't get home till around 5:30am Saturday morning. Just about the time I went out the door.
* Went to church Sunday morning and had a wonderful lunch with Mr Answers and one of his boys after church. We then spent the afternoon doing some target practice and riding the Teryx out at our daughter in laws family farm. W-baby mom went with us and later on Ava Grace went riding with us also. After that we went over and visited with Madison for a little while. They were both excited to see us, and we were more excited to see them.
* While Ava was riding with us, we asked her where she wanted to ride next, assuming that she wanted to climb so more hills, but no, she said "she wanted to go to Grans house".
* Went to Walmart last night to pick up a few things and stopped by the ammo section. There wasn't any 9mm, 45, 40, or 223. I asked the young guy working when they would get some in and he said there was a shipment arriving overnight. This morning I stopped by there to get drinks and water and strolled by there again. Just as I walked up the lady that works in that department walked up and I asked her if the 9mm had come in. It had and I bought a few boxes.
* The opinions about guns vary wildly throughout my family. The opinions about semi automatic weapons and high capacity magazines vary even more wildly in my family. I know where I stand and I know where they stand. I agree to disagree.
* I have had many different guns since I was old enough to carry one. I've always respected them and handled them in a cautious and safe manner. I have a cousin that has had guns and shot them since he was old enough to walk. He accidentally discharged a deer rifle, 270 if I remember correct, while trying to get it out the window of his truck and shot himself in the leg. He was lucky, no lingering after effects.
* The next few weeks are going to be a fast paced. We have to got to Austin this weekend for a party and then next Tuesday we head back to Georgia for W-stepson #3 graduation ceremony and Turning Blue ceremony.
* I haven't mentioned lately, but Archie the Shih Tzu that will soon be 18 years old isn't doing very good. He's blind. He's deaf and is getting more and more disoriented every day. Health wise, he seems to be ok. He can't jump up on the couch like he used to, but we don't know if it's because he can't see or he's not able. I dread the day.
* Update on Cuz: I talked to him about 20 minutes on Saturday. He was in good spirits and was just waiting to get evaluated to go back to TIRR, which he hopes to be within the next two weeks. He has had some real aggressive back spasms. According to the therapists, thats a sign of communication with the muscles and brain. Pray they are right!
* Time to get back to work, see ya Around The Corner!
Not much change for the rest of the week they say.
* W-spouse and I stayed home on New Years eve. Never left the house, or had any company over. That may be a first for me. I also didn't have a drink of anything stronger than iced tea. That could also be a first.
* Yesterday, W-spouse and I went to Shoot Smart in Ft Worth and did some target practice. I only shot four magazines, but she went through at least ten mags. She is getting good and real familiar with her Glock. She is right on target at 3 and 7 yds.
* We went to Cabelas and Academy afterwards. It was a madhouse in Cabelas. I can honestly say that there were close to 100 people standing in the gun purchase line. There was hardly any ammo left. Mostly just shotgun ammo. Academy was the same way, no ammo. Craziness.
* Just about everyone in my immediate family, here and in Austin have been sick with this crud. I haven't felt right since before Christmas. I can't get rid of these symptoms, and I've taken all kinds of meds.
* Mr. Answers reminded me at church on Sunday that I am having rock park withdrawals. I hope to go out there this weekend, although I see working on Saturday in my future.
* He also FORGOT to let us know that we were not having Bible class on Sunday morning. When I called and asked him about it, he told me that it would be a good time for me to set and spend an hour in prayer. I took that to mean that he didn't think I pray enough, and probably needed more practice.
* Has Duck hunting just now became wildly popular, or has it always been?
* To the best of my knowledge I have never shot a Duck. I don't even know the differences in all of them. How the heck do you tell the difference before you shoot? My eyes aren't that good.
* The rig operator that I work with bought me a pair of camo coveralls. Not the cheap kind either, they are waterproof and are the kind that zip all the way up the legs. He said "they are mucho grande." Smartass....
* He's a great guy and has an incredible work ethic. I have been working with him for nearly six years and he's never called in sick. He's never been late to location, and has always been at least 30 minutes early. He's a terrific family man and also a pretty good hand at team roping.
* We got to keep both of the grand kids on Monday all day. We had a blast. Although I had to escape for a short while. When I returned home they were both hiding behind the curtains in the family room. Sophie was giving up their location though.
* W-stepson heads back to Georgia to finish basic training on Thursday evening. Then he's off to Hawaii.
* Have a great day my friends, see ya Around The Corner!aroundthecornerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10618937005669670424noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6916479030939422122.post-35996162426569331642012-12-31T23:32:00.001-06:002012-12-31T23:34:23.910-06:00Happy New Years2012 Thoughts
* Finally got the Jeep that I've always wanted.
* Spent the first three months modifying the Jeep.
* Redesigned the backyard and built a swing set/playhouse for the grand kids to play on.
* Did a complete makeover to the kitchen area of our home.
* My wife and I decided to spend more time in church, and with God.
* Watched the last one of our children graduate high school.
* Added a Labradoodle puppy to the family.
* Spent three months wondering if one of my children would ever speak to me again.
* Went to the ER with heart attack like symptoms. False alarm.
* Turned 50 years old, and celebrated that fact with the very closest of family and friends.
* Spent a week in Mexico for the first time in my life. Most of the week spent laying out on the beach.
* Watched our youngest son swear in to the US Army and leave for basic training.
* Purchased a Kawasaki Teryx4 side by side.
* Set beside my cousin/brother/best friend in ICU for a week after a tragic accident paralyzed him, possibly for life.
* Cried. A. Lot.
* Spent a lot of time after the accident thinking about changes that needed to be made in my life.
* Travelled back and forth to Houston more times than I remember.
* Found a 16' utility trailer and restored it.
* Continued working at a great job that I love.
* Started using Mac instead of PC.
* Learned that I would be a grandfather for the third time.
* Remained in a group text for the year.
* Either read or listened to 20 or more books and audiobooks.
* Lastly, spent the last hour of 2012 posting this to my blog.

Happy New Years to my family, friends and faithful blog readers!aroundthecornerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10618937005669670424noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6916479030939422122.post-26457610182769702942012-12-27T10:05:00.000-06:002012-12-27T10:05:01.467-06:00From The Corner Of My Mind* Well winter arrived in full force once again on Christmas day. Rain, sleet then snow in Decatur. It hasn't gotten above freezing since then. Today it is supposed to get up around 39, then fog tonight and in the morning.
* A great Christmas was once again had at Around The Corner. All the kids were able to be here this year, but Madison was sick and didn't make our Christmas or Papa Harold and Granny D's. Mo and Big Dude didn't make it either because Big Dude has the crud also. They might try to come over the weekend if he feels better. I was a little under the weather since Thursday, but I'm better now also. W-spouse always have the kids a game planned to do with each other at our Christmas. This year it was a scavenger hunt. Boys vs Girls. The boys won by getting their items and returning back first. One of the things they had to do was sing Jingle Bells with the Salvation Army bell ringer in front of Walmart. That was hilarious.
* This was my favorite Christmas present.
* This was second favorite Christmas present.
* The snow didn't stick, or get thick enough on the ground to get the Teryx4 out and play in it. That, and it was to cold to get out.
* I'm watching Breaking Bad on Netflix. I'm nearly through the second season. I hope it gets better before season 3. It's nearly to predictable.
* The group text has been slow over the holidays. I'm sure it will return with a vengeance before the New Year.
* FaceBook was incredibly quiet on Christmas day.
* I waited all Christmas day on the that phone call. It never came, so at 7pm, I made the call. I have a feeling that will be my last.
* As we looked over the presents the day before Christmas eve, W-spouse and I were taking inventory of what we had gotten the G-babies. I made the comment "I think we overdid the overdoing". We both broke into laughter.
* It was a proud moment sitting/setting in church with W-stepson 3 in his Army uniform Sunday morning. Everyone was glad to see him and his mom couldn't have been more proud.
* Time to get to work, see ya Around The Corner!aroundthecornerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10618937005669670424noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6916479030939422122.post-22649218163610735542012-12-19T08:51:00.001-06:002012-12-19T08:51:39.176-06:00From The Corner Of My Mind* The weather is warm for December. Weird. That will change tomorrow I hear. Cooler temps are on the way, and possible snow or cold rain on Christmas day.
* This morning at 4:30 am I was laying in bed awake. I woke up with a scratchy throat due to allergies. The phone started ringing and it startled me. No one ever calls that early. It was our SIT (soldier in training). He is scheduled to arrive at DFW on a 6:15pm flight today. Apparently the US Army decided that they needed to get ready a day early. He said they made them clear their bunks and store their lockers except for what they were taking on leave with them. The Soldiers had sat in the hall all night and were taken to the airport at 4am. We tried to catch him an earlier flight but they were all booked up and full. Last I heard he was on standby for the earlier flight, but it was full. W-spouse and I will get to see him this evening. He will be here till January 3rd and then he's off to Hawaii !!
* We had a great weekend in Houston giving David a surprise 50th Birthday party. It took a lot of effort, but we kept it from him right up till party time. The look on his face was priceless when he saw everyone there. He kept repeating "You got me".
* Happy Birthday to Kathleen. I hope you have a wonderful day!
* We have a lot of Christmas going on this weekend.
* We took the grand babies to ICE last week. It was cold and fun.
* We also took them to the Rainforest Cafe after ICE. They loved all the animals and sounds until they were standing very near the Tigers, and they roared/growled. Both the girls took off running and screaming.
* Towing around 2 two year old kids isn't easy.
* Come to think of it, towing around 1 two year old isn't easy.
* W-baby mom and Madison rode to Houston with us over the weekend and Madison was a trooper. She hardly ever got fussy down there and back.
* I need to run, see ya Around The Corner!aroundthecornerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10618937005669670424noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6916479030939422122.post-6020685644356137762012-12-18T10:54:00.001-06:002012-12-18T10:58:10.345-06:00Madison And Family Elf Dancing

This past Saturday was Davids 50th Birthday. What he didn't know was that we had a surprise birthday planned for him. After a month of careful planning and trying in vain to keep it from him, we all pulled off a successful surprise party. Many thanks to the staff at Kindred, Jo Anna, W-spouse, Sharon and James, Shayne and MANY others to numerous to name here. Without each of you, and the role you played in the party, it couldn't have been done. He is not an easy person to pull something like this off on, but we did. He was delighted. He was touched, and above all else the smile on his face made all the hard work worth every second of it. Sunday morning we went up to his room and visited with him before returning home and he was still smiling and talking about it.
Yea, he wrote it all himself.

Thoughts On Change

Changes
in our lives are inevitable. Some of them are happy changes and some are are
sad. How are we emotional creatures supposed to handle these changes? Should we
dwell upon our past mistakes? Surely that can't help us to move forward. I
suppose that adapting to fluctuations in the daily rhythm of our lives is one of
the most difficult things we humans do. We are, as a species, rather set in our
ways. When we get set in our ways as we do, we expect things to happen in our
time. We are selfish. We have a sense of entitlement. We crave instant
gratification. When our lives swirl around us, we try to stomp it down and keep
it safely trapped under our feet. Unfortunately, because of the nature of change
~ it has its own inflexible schedule ~ that is hardly ever the best way of
dealing with things that we try in vain to control.

Time.
We must submit to the one thing we have absolutely no control over. Again, I
turn to Whitman for wisdom:

"Here
or henceforward it is all the same to me, I accept Time
absolutely."

I.
Accept. Time. Absolutely. Time is the great arbiter of all disputes, troubles,
conflicts, love and most of all, change. We must submit to its judgment for, as
Whitman so aptly states, it is absolute and inflexible. Why would we, as mere
transients in the greater scope of eternity, suppose to be able to force our
wants and needs against something so intransigent? It is against our nature to
believe that we are incapable of making things happen in our own time. Forcing
time to pass is a loser's game.

How
then, do we cope with things that change in our lives? I've never been very good
at it. Like time, I'm often inflexible, rigid, demanding, pushy. Sometimes you
just have to step back and breathe. Our worlds will not end because something
changes. And more often than not, accepting the constraints of time rewards us
with what we wanted to begin with.

Think
back on all of the times in your life you've been thrown a knuckleball ~
wobbling and weaving towards the plate while you awkwardly try and swing at the
un-hittable pitch. When your parents moved when you were a kid and you had to
change schools. That was the worst feeling in the world.

I
remember starting school at Young Junior High in the 7th grade. I specifically
remember sitting in the gym for some sort of welcome program, staring at the
floor thinking that I would never make it through the year. The change from the
small pond of elementary to the larger pond of junior high was terrifying. Now
I'm 43 years old and writing about it on my blog. I wasn't even half way done
with my education at that point!

When
your high school girlfriend started going out with the dumbest stoner in school
(if this sounds specific it's because it actually happened to me! ha!). I
remember sitting on the curb with my best friend crying outside of a party. I
was 16 and thought I'd never love again. God, somehow I made it through that! My
first night in boot camp I got up out of my rack and went to the head and looked
in the mirror as I ran my hands over my bald dome (who would have guessed??) and
cried for my mommy. I just knew I'd never ever make it through the next day.
Guess what? I did. Standing in the airport with my best friends before boarding
the plane to Camp Pendleton and then on to Saudi Arabia, I wasn't sure I'd ever
come back (if you recall that at the time, there was great uncertainty as to
whether Iraq would use chemical weapons ~ it was a big concern and our
commanders told us to expect that not all of us would return). I was 22 and had
just the day before signed my last will and testament. Boarding that plane was
just about the loneliest I have ever been. That little Desert Storm adventure
was a change, but not as big as I had feared, which taught me an additional
lesson: it's not always going to be as bad as you fear it might be.

I've
been experiencing some changes in my life recently and I'm scared. I'm worried.
I'm saddened. I've been thinking, though. And breathing. And reflecting on all
the past changes in my life and how I've lived through them and learned the
lessons of my past mistakes. I have resolved to allow time to govern these
changes and emerge a better person on the other end. A happier person. A more
loving person. A more tolerant person. Yeah, I know. You don't believe a word of
it. Why should you? You've been reading my blog for years! My hope is that
things turn out the way I want them to, but I have to accept the fact that it
may not be that way. I can control me. I can't control the actions of others. Or
time.

These
are all just words on a page. A true man is not measured by the words that come
out of his mouth or the words written on a page. A true man is measured by and
through his actions. We can't change our past, but we damn sure have control of
our future, within the constraints set forth by Time of course.

When the wind isn't blowing, it's not that bad working in the cold.
* A cozy warm office would be nice though.
* I have a few friends and relatives taking finals this week. Good luck and I have no doubts that you will succeed.
* I am prepared for the weekend.
* I received a strange text yesterday. Totally out of the norm.
* Great news on Cuz: Yesterday while doing therapy he felt pressure in his toes. The therapist had him try to move the toes and he moved them a little. That was exciting news for all of us. His immediate family had a 50th birthday party for him last night at Kindred. His birthday is on Saturday, but some of them will be out of town, so they had a small get together for him. Yesterday his CT scans were sent over to the Spine Doctor. She will evaluate them and determine today whether or not the Halo can be removed. If it can, they will remove it today at 3:30pm and fit him for a neck brace. He will have worn the Halo for 78 days today.
* The countdown is on! W-stepson that is currently in basic training at Fort Benning GA will be home one week from today. He will be here till the 3rd of January and then we will make another trip out there for graduation on the 16-17th of January. From there he will ship out to Hawaii. We don't know the details yet, but it will probably be right after graduation from what we are reading on the Aco Gators Facebook page.
* I'm still loving the MacBook Pro. I can't believe I waited this long to get one. I recently made a movie of the Family Day pictures and it was so easy.
* That was not my opinion on yesterdays post. I just posted it to get YOUR opinion. I think his dishonor of the military that he served in was tasteless and disrespectful. Yes, he should be forgiven. No, it shouldn't be forgotten. True, his 30 minutes of fame will soon be just memory.
* Trevor Brazille and his Heeler made a great run of 4.1 last night. 10 minutes later, a much younger team posted a 3.5 time. Smoked them as we would say in NASCAR!
* Attention Scooter: Has becoming a grandfather caused you to go offline? Or, are you Doomsday prepping? Your peeps are wondering about you my friend!!
* Time for me to get to work, see ya Around The Corner!
Nor did the White House choose the entertainment of the evening. However, Mr. Obama did shake hands publicly with the rapper. Was this the right way to respond to him? What does biblical forgiveness look like?

It is not excusing behavior, or pretending it did not occur, or trying to forget that it happened. God's word defines forgiveness as pardon—deciding not to punish, as when a governor chooses not to punish a criminal. Consistent with this definition, the president did not prosecute Psy for his earlier actions or bar him from performing in America. However, I believe it was wrong for our nation's leader to shake his hand publicly, as such a gesture conveys a sense of acceptance or even endorsement.

Do you agree or disagree? With a brief snow fall.
* I warmed up Black Beauty this morning before leaving. I noticed some snow on the windshield and hood of the soldiers truck. On the way over to Ponder, I was driving the normal speed until I saw the vehicle on top of the 730 overpass in the west bound lane. I then started paying a little closer attention to the bridges. I would have never dreamed that they would have frozen over that fast with the warm temperatures we have had the last few weeks.
* One of the truck drivers on location just told me that he went by at least 5 vehicles on 287 between Bowie and Decatur crashed in the ditch.
* I watched the 10pm news last night. They said all chances of snow were going to be up near the Red River and Witchita Falls. They missed.
* It would not be to bad out there if it wasn't for the wind blowing. It's got a bite to it.
* Group text had a board meeting Friday night. No changes were made to the rules and policies set forth by the Board. We were short one Board member, but a guest set in for her.
* There were some great laughs, and possibly a little gossip.
* The National Finals Rodeo are in full swing out in Vegas. Yea, some of my peeps are headed that way this morning. Driving west, instead of flying.
* W-spouse and I have been watching them on GAC nearly every night so far. Until we go to sleep that is. I suppose I should have TIVO set to record, but I'm not THAT into it.
* I worked the sound board at church Sunday morning. We have been away on the road so much lately, that I haven't gotten a chance to do that.
* The computer at church crashed. The IT guy brought both of his Macs, and did an outstanding job of putting everything together on such short notice. I bet most members didn't even realize what had happened.
* I don't think I could pass a college final exam at my age. I have forgotten how to study. Although I have thought about taking a few courses.
* We still haven't wrapped not one present.
* We are taking the grand babies to see the ICE exhibit one evening this week. Then we are going to make a drive through the TMS Christmas lights.
* Now for the big news. DRUM ROLL PLEASE................. W-spouse and I are going to be grand parents again. Ava G is going to have a little brother or sister in July!!!!
* Have a wonderful Monday, see ya Around The Corner!aroundthecornerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10618937005669670424noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6916479030939422122.post-55364774901650745672012-12-10T08:47:00.001-06:002012-12-10T08:47:19.566-06:00Madison With Santa

aroundthecornerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10618937005669670424noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6916479030939422122.post-26719982473555461262012-12-06T09:30:00.001-06:002012-12-06T09:30:38.464-06:00Oops!

aroundthecornerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10618937005669670424noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6916479030939422122.post-23812397378202627292012-12-05T10:45:00.000-06:002012-12-05T10:45:14.544-06:00From The Corner Of My Mind* The weather is great for this time of the year. That will change late Sunday night according to the forecasters. One of the sites I was looking at said a chance of snow? Probably not.
* We need moisture any way we can get it though.
* In a way I want it to snow hard enough, and to stay on the ground long enough to play in it on the Teryx4. I bet that would be a blast!
* W-baby mom put that idea in my head yesterday.
* Update on Cuz: He's settling in at Kindred. His new bed was supposed to arrive today. He has had some sores develop on his bottom, which is part of the process we hear, but the new bed should help with that. They have been rotating and rolling him on schedule, but the sores still appeared. I was told that two things happened yesterday. He moved his right hand. He hasn't done that since day one. He also started telling the nurses that the Halo is bothering his back. So it seems there is some feeling returning to his back. Or at the very least, some communication there. He was also told yesterday that due to his Doctor having to take a two week vacation in December that they have rescheduled his Halo removal. She will look at the CT scans and determine if the Halo can come off on the 12th instead of on the 23rd. Keep praying for that!
* Madison has been sick since Saturday. She is doing better and could possibly go back to day care today.
* We also got to see Ava G last night. I can't wait to get them both together again to play on Project DTBY.
* Some events have taken place over the last few days that could possibly better my chances for a change. Pending.
* The group text has been incredibly quiet for the last few days.
* SOA ended the season with viewers pondering a few questions. I don't want to spoil it for those that haven't seen it yet, but I will say this, "Gemma is evil".
* We finally moved to a different location this morning. The internet signal is incredible here. The other location had a perfect phone signal, but the internet was sporadic. It would just quit, and you couldn't get hooked back up. Sometimes for a few minutes, or the rest of the day.
* Christmas is coming on fast.
* W-spouse has already gotten most of the presents for everyone. Well, probably not know her.
* I posted that quote the other day before LL did. Not after. You aren't so smart after all. Look at the post times.
* I walked right out and forgot to take my meds yesterday. I noticed it when I got home. Actually, I wondered why I had a headache all day yesterday.
* Have a great day, see ya Around The Corner!aroundthecornerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10618937005669670424noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6916479030939422122.post-84323484589146361482012-12-04T07:51:00.000-06:002012-12-04T07:51:06.934-06:00Chance Of Snow Next Week?
